Small Store Mystery Shops

Whenever you first start mystery shopping, you end up getting a lot of very strange jobs. Most of my first jobs consisted of restaurants and grocery stores. These were fairly easy to do as most of the employees were really oblivious to the fact that there might even be a mystery shopper involved. Some of the most difficult things that I ever had to do, however, were the small store mystery shops where you had to evaluate a single employee. Most of the time, this was the only employee that was working in the store at that time. Here are some of my favorite small store mystery shops that I ever did.

My first mystery shopping job could actually be qualified as a small store. Even though it was part of a large chain of doughnut stores, the actual store itself is very small in size. There were only about three people working in there, including the manager on duty. You have to take special care whenever you are mystery shopping such a small store as they are more likely to realize that you are actually working for the company. This is especially true if the evaluation consist of you asking a lot of different questions. If the employees are on their toes, they will be suspicious at least of the possibility of you being a mystery shopper.

My second small store mystery shop was at a pool supply store. My wife and I went into the store in order to evaluate the store itself as well as the employee on duty. After walking around the store for about 15 minutes it was obvious that the person that was working at the store had no interest in helping us at all. Since this was such a small store, we decided to give them the benefit of the doubt and to make it very obvious that we needed some help. We stood about 10 feet away from them, looking at an inflatable raft and asking each other questions as if we were idiots. The employee ended up talking on a cell phone and not helping us at all. We made a small purchase, which was required as part of the mystery shop, and left.

Another small store mystery shop that we had to do was at a hardware store. This actually went quite well as the people were very helpful to us from the moment that we walked into the store. Not only were they willing to greet us at the door and asked us if we needed any help, they followed us back to the isle where we were looking and showed us the very item that we were supposed to find. These people ended up getting a glowing evaluation from us whenever we entered the online site that evening. I'm sure that they were perked in one way or another by the company because they did such a good job on their mystery shop.
