Mystery Shop at a Donut Shop
It was my first mystery shop that I ever did. I was nervous to say the
least and I wanted to make sure that I did a great job. I had heard
that the jobs that you were offered got progressively better so I was
happy to end up with a Dunkin Donuts shop so early in my mystery
shopping career. Here is what I did and how the entire shop went for
me.
The first thing that I needed to do was to go through the drive through
and place my order. While I was driving through the parking lot I took
notice of the surrounding area and landscaping. Not only did it need to
be neat and clean, there were some specific things that I needed to
look for. These things included the trash area. It needed to be clean
and neat in its surroundings and the doors not only needed to be in
good working order, they needed to be closed. The bushes and
landscaping needed to be in good condition and no trash was to be in
the area. The only exception to this was that trash that blew into the
area recently was acceptable. The grounds of the shop looked in good
order, so I pulled into the drive through.
Once I was in the drive through, I took notice of how things looked at
the back door to make sure that it was not cluttered or unkempt. The
menu sign needed to be clean and free of damage and any notes other
than what was supposed to be on the menu. I then placed my order of 1
black coffee and a sausage bagel sandwich. The person inside came back
with the statement "what size coffee?", which was bad because they did
not attempt to upsell me. I pulled forward to the window, paid and
asked for a receipt.
Once we had my order in hand, we were to pull around front and enter
the building as if we had decided to eat inside. Once in the restaurant
we were to take notice of the cleanliness of the table area, behind the
counter and the bathrooms. We were also to make sure that they were
well stocked with all of their core products which consisted of a
variety of donuts and bagels. They did well on this part of the shop so
I ate my sandwich and left after staying for 10 minutes.
Once I got home I put the shop code on the top of the receipt and took
a picture to upload to the mystery shopping network. I did a brief
online evaluation that consisted of multiple choice answers for the
particular things that I was to check while I was on the job. I ended
up getting paid $7 and being compensated for my food, all for about 20
minutes work, doing something that I would have done anyway.
Since that time, my wife and I have gotten a lot smarter in our secret
shopping. We take on multiple jobs during the day so we both get a
breakfast and some money for doing what we would have done anyway.
